Global Warming: Why Would The Sea Level Rise When The Polar Icecap Melts?

Posted on February 8th, 2010 in Uncategorized | No Comments »

Hello Reader,

I have been pondering the thought of global warming lately, and it became apparent to me that I have many unanswered questions when it comes to this controversial topic. For one, when you have a glass of water with ice cubes in it, when it melts the water level stays the same. So, why when the polar ice cap melts would the sea level rise? It seems like the same idea – when the ice cube is in the water it has already displaced the maximum amount of water it can. Wouldn’t the same principle apply to the polar ice cap?

The only logical explanations would be either a landmass under the ice cap, or something else separating it from the water itself. If one of you could explain or find something that does, let me know in the comments! Sorry for the off topic post, I will be posting more about the topics this blog is focused on soon!

Thanks!

Problems With Wordpress 2.8.6? Here’s How To Solve Them…

Posted on November 30th, 2009 in Tutorials | No Comments »

If you have recently upgraded to wordpress version 2.8.6, you might have noticed unusual bugs or problems occurring with your blog. Shortly after upgrading my blog to wordpress 2.8.6, I was having extensive problems with even simple tasks, like posting an article. After some research and troubleshooting, I was able to come up with a very quick and easy solution to most of the problems I were experiencing.

Some googling along with some past experience of my own led me to think of three things that might be causing this problem….

  1. Compatibility Issues

I thought that the errors I were experiencing might be caused by compatibility issues with certain plugins and/or widgets I am using on my blog. To make sure that this was not the case, I simply deactivated all of the plugins on my blog temporarily, and tried again. This did no good, so it left me with two more things that could possibly be affecting my blogging experience.

2. Script/Program Issues

The next thing that I thought might be affecting the way my blog was acting up is an error in the current release of the wordpress software. This thought was quickly ruled out after I didn’t find one reported case of scripting error on the Internet, nor a new update from wordpress. It was a relief to find out that this was not the problem, and it left me with only one more option.

3. Database Errors

After ruling out the first two ideas, this had to be the one. And sure enough, after I logged into phpmyadmin and optimized and repaired all tables in my wordpress database, all errors seemed to disappear. If you too are experiencing these issues, I would recommend logging into your phpmyadmin control panel and repairing and optimizing your entire database. This should cause any errors that you are currently experiencing to disappear.

Good luck with your wordpress 2.8.6 errors! I hope my quick article helps you in solving your wordpress problems fast. Have a great time blogging!

WP to Twitter – WordPress Plugin

Posted on November 14th, 2009 in Tutorials | 2 Comments »

I recently came across a great WordPress Plugin, titled “WP to Twitter”. It is well known, however I figured I should do a review to test it out, as well as let you all know exactly what its about. In simplicity, WP to Twitter allows you to post automatic updates to your Twitter account whenever you make a new post on your WordPress blog. It’s simple to configure, and very easy to use; anyone can have their WordPress blog posting automatic updates in just minutes. I strongly suggest this great plugin to anyone who has a WordPress blog, and a Twitter account. If you are interested, read the quick tutorial below on how to completely configure and install this plugin.

Signing Up

The first step to installing the WP to Twitter plugin is simply signing up for a few services that all are involved with the plugin. This plugin uses bit.ly or cli.gs to automatically shorten the link to your blog post before updating your twitter status. In order to use this feature, you must first be signed up with bit.ly or cli.gs. To sign up, travel to either Bit.ly or Cli.gs and go through the sign up process. After you have successfully signed up for one of the two link shortening services, you can move onto the next step.

Installing The Plugin

The next step in this process is to actually install the plugin. To do so, travel to your blog’s WordPress admin panel, and click on the “plugins” tab. While there, use the “search plugins” tool to find the WP to Twitter plugin. Click on it, and then click “install plugin”. After the plugin has successfully installed, it is time to configure and setup the plugin to work in conjunction with your WordPress blog.

Configuring The Plugin

The final step in this process is the configuring of the plugin. To open the configuration panel for the WP to Twitter plugin, browse once again to the “plugins” tab in your WordPress admin panel. While there, click on the “settings” link while hovering over the WP to Twitter plugin. You will be brought to a page with many different options for the WP to Twitter plugin.

Most of the options can be configured according to what you want. The only important thing that we must configure correctly is near the bottom where you need to enter your bit.ly or cli.gs info. You will notice that you need to fill in something called your API key in order to make this application work. To get your bit.ly account key, simply browse to your account page, and copy it from there. To get your cli.gs key, go to your “account” page, and click on the “My API Keys” page to generate a new API key. After you have configured the bit.ly or cli.gs account information, you are done configuring the plugin. Now, whenever you make a post, it will automatically be linked to in a twitter status update.

If you have any problems or queries, post a comment below, or send me an email at brettporcelli@aol.com. Good luck!

ShareCash.org – Is It A Good Way To Make Money?

Posted on November 13th, 2009 in Reviews, Uncategorized | No Comments »

Recently, I discovered a great money-making program on the internet. Titled “ShareCash”, this website allows you to make money by uploading and sharing files. ShareCash is similar to sites like “ziddu”, however, in my opinion ShareCash is a much better website. Sure, both ShareCash and Ziddu allow there users to upload files, and then get paid every time someone downloads them, but ShareCash offers much more money per download.

At this point, you might be wondering how the heck this program works. In simplicity, ShareCash will present the person downloading your file with a quick survey before they can download the file. When the person downloading your file completes the survey, ShareCash gets paid by another company. When they get paid, you get a certain percentage of the profit; 20-60 cents depending on which survey they take. After they have completed the survey, they are allow to download the file immediately.

Now, you might be thinking… okay, this sounds good, but won’t filling out a survey each time just to download a file prevent users from downloading it? The answer is yes, and no. Yes, this will prevent your user from downloading a file that is available elsewhere on the net, but if the file is unique to you, and it is only available on ShareCash, there is not much they can do. As long as you have a good quality file up for download, people should be fine with completing a short 2 minute survey in order to get it.

So, what’s the final verdict? Is ShareCash.org a good way to make money on the web? I’d say yes. ShareCash allows for a quick and easy income source that you cannot get from using other websites. It’s as simple as uploading a file, and providing a download link… nothing else involved. Payments are via PayPal, which means you can use your funds to do many things on the internet… even purchase from eBay! If you come up with a good method, ShareCash could wind up making you hundreds of dollars each day.

If you liked this article, and you are interested in signing up for ShareCash, please feel free to sign up as my referral if you would like, by clicking on the link below. Please remember, becoming my referral will not affect you in the long run whatsoever. Thanks for reading my article!

What to do if your Facebook account is hacked?

Posted on November 11th, 2009 in Tutorials | No Comments »

This is the second part in the series of posts about how to overcome a hackers power and get your account back on multiple social networking sites. If a hacker attacks your Facebook page, you will immediately notice it. You will see posts that you didn’t write starting to appear. People might start to complain about the spam that your are posting. If you happen to notice any of those two things, you should take action immediately to get your account back.

In this situation, there are two different ways a hacker might take advantage of your account. Sometimes, the hacker will obtain your Facebook password via methods like phishing and key loggers, and then leave the password as it is. In other cases, the hacker will obtain your password, and then change it to keep you from stopping them. The good news is, there is a solution for both situations.

If you HAVE access to your Facebook account, simply change your password, and you should have total control back. If you DO NOT have access to your Facebook account, the only other option is to use the “forgot password” form on the login page to get the current account password sent to your email. Using those two methods, you should be able to overcome the hacker and gain total control of your account.

To prevent this from happening again, there are a few things you should watch out for. Look out for messages from people that point to links outside of Facebook. Most of the time, there account is hacked, and the link they give you will lead you to a page where your computer will be injected with viruses and key loggers. Don’t click these links!! Another thing to look out for is pages that ask you to login to Facebook, but don’t have Facebook’s URL. These websites are called phishing sites, and they will collect your Facebook login data and use it to hack your account. Be weary of any website that asks for your password on Facebook…it is most likely a phishing site!

Good Luck!

What to do if your Twitter account is hacked?

Posted on November 11th, 2009 in Tutorials | No Comments »

If you are a member on any social networking site, odds are at least one of your accounts has been hacked before. It’s hard to prevent, and it eventually happens to all of us. If you do get hacked, however, there is no need to worry; just follow the steps below to overcome the hacker and re-gain total control of your account. In this particular post, I will discuss mainly how to overcome Twitter hackers, however I will discuss how to re-gain control of many other types of social networking accounts in other separate posts.

You have already discovered that your account is hacked. You keep seeing things appear on your twitter time line that you didn’t post, you see people complaining about spam. Once you notice those signs, you should take action immediately. The first thing you want to do is get rid of any possible ways that the hacker may be taking over your account. First, go into the “settings” area, and click on the “connections” tab. This will bring you to a page of  applications that you have given access to your account. If you do not recognize any of the applications on the list, simply click “revoke access” to make sure that that app is no longer connected to your twitter account.

Connections Tab
Now that we know the hacker cannot be penetrating our accounts through the “connections” page, it’s time to simply change your password. Changing your password will seal the deal, to make sure that the hacker can never get back into your account. To change your password, simply go to the “settings” page, then click on the tab “password”. Fill out the required fields to change your password. After you change your password, you’re done!

Password Tab
Now you should have sealed the hacker out. To prevent future attacks, avoid giving permission to applications that you cannot trust, and avoid clicking on links that look suspicious. Also, remember to never give your password to ANYBODY, and to always check the URL of the site you are logging into to make sure that it is correct. This will insure that you shouldn’t experience being hacked any more in your life.

Good luck!

How to: Jailbreak iPod/iPhone 3.1.2 Update

Posted on October 15th, 2009 in Tutorials | No Comments »

If you have recently upgraded to the iphone 3.1.2 firmware, you no longer need to regret it. Thanks to a new jailbreak program called blackra1n developed by George Hotz, you can now jailbreak your 3.1.2 itouch or iphone in less than a minute! Yes, I said less than a minute. I recently upgraded my itouch to 3.1.2 firmware, and luckily this brand new program came out just in time for me. I tried it out, and while following the instructions this program worked flawlessly on the first shot!

The developers explanation of his program is absolutely true. This is one of the quickest jailbreak applications I have ever seen…and i believe it will stay that way. Like i said above, his claim that this only takes 30 seconds to complete is true. The simple program has only one button, and when you press it, it does exactly as it says it should.

Here are the simple steps to using this program to jailbreak your 3.1.2 itouch or iphone:

  1. Go to http://www.blackra1n.com/ and click on the mac or windows symbol to download the program. Mac users click the mac symbol of course, and windows users click the windows symbol.
  2. Connect your itouch or iphone to your computer, and open the blackra1n program.
  3. Click on “Make it ra1n” to start the fast jailbreak process.
  4. After completing the jailbreak, your ipod or iphone will restart with a picture of some guy with ipods floating around him.
  5. After your ipod restarts, run the blackra1n application on your itouch or iphone to install Cydia, Rock, or Ice.
  6. After using the blackra1n program to your needs, you may delete it by holding the home button down until the app icons begin to shake, and then clicking the black x over the blackra1n icon.

You have now completed the entire jailbreak process. Aside from the re-syncing of your ipod or iphone, you should have noticed that the actual jailbreaking of your ipod was extremely quick. That is what makes this such a great program. If you have any trouble, post a comment and I will help out.
Good luck!

What is a Linkwheel? Is it safe to use?

Posted on September 26th, 2009 in Tutorials, Web Marketing | 2 Comments »

What is a linkwheel?

If you have ever been around any webmaster forums like daniweb, and digitalpoint, you may have seen the term “linkwheel” used in a few posts. If you were wondering what the heck a linkwheel is, this is the article for you!

Explanation of a linkwheel

In simple words, a linkwheel is a method of generating traffic which involves a set of web 2.0 properties being linked together in a wheel-like structure to promote a page on the web. If done correctly, this method can generate a ton of traffic, and many backlinks as well. Although you might hear from some internet marketers that this is not a safe method to use, I strongly disagree. As long as each of the involved web 2.0 properties has unique content, you should be fine!

Build your own basic linkwheel

In order to create a successful linkwheel, you first need to create a few different web 2.0 properties all with keywords related to the main web page you are trying to promote. For this tutorial, i would recommend you use 6 different high page-rank web 2.0 properties. For each property you create in your link-wheel, you will need to include the following:

  • 1 Unique Article (Can be completely unique, or just changed)
  • Each article contains 2 links – one to your focus page, and one to the next web 2.0 property.

So basically, you will wind up with something like this:

  • Site A links to Site B and Main page
  • Site B links to Site C and Main page
  • Site C links to Site D and Main page
  • Site D links to Site E and Main page
  • Site E links to Site F and Main page
  • Site F links to Site A and Main page

This method is useful not only for gaining traffic and building up your backlink count, but also promoting a specific keyword for your site. If you do not understand the breif overview above, you can take a look at the diagram below for a better explanation.

Final verdict

My final verdict is.. yes, of course a linkwheel is safe to use in SEO. As long as you include unique content on each web property, you are 100% good to go!

Thank you for reading, and good luck!
